“It won’t be that cold!”

“It won’t be that cold!” I said when we drove Sunday morning to Germany. “The fog will make space for the sun in the afternoon for sure!”…

We arrived in Ahsen at 10.30 and decide to change immediately into our kayak gear. We couldn’t say we were cold because we just stepped out of a warm car after a 3 hours drive. 3 German paddlers instead had spent the night camping near the spot! The funny fact – they live 20 minutes by car from there! – and instead of driving back home for the night and drying out their gear, they woke up in the morning, 5 degrees and had to put on their wet and almost frozen kayak gear - hardcore!

The water level was quite good but we were a bit struggling with making good moves. Martina could make some nice cartwheels and splits what I thought was really difficult in this hole. Senna was practicing her loops, and managed to trough some nice once! The locals could make Mc Nasty’s easily, so I thought it won’t be to hard… but out of all the try’s I think I managed it once... ;)

After one and a half hour we were freezing cold and had enough of freestyle already! We decide to change and head to a local bar for a hot chocolate with whipped cream! We visited the only bar in town but unfortunately they didn't had any hot drink. We ended up in a warm room by the ATM with some hot soup and a heater! Couldn't be better!

In the afternoon the fog was still around and the temperature didn’t got any better. Because Senna and me had some dry gear left we went for a 2nd session. Martina put on all her clothes she had brought and made a couple of shots of us trying to go big.

All by all it was an sweet trip! Not sure if we do it again with those temperatures though ;-).
